While I was fully aware that director Tamra Davis is married to Mike D of the Beastie Boys, I didn’t expect her to let us in on so many personal music moments she shared with him in her Guest DJ set – from the George Harrison song he put on a mix CD for her when they were falling in love, to her experience behind the making of one of the Beastie Boys’ biggest hits, “So What’cha Want.”

Hear her full Guest DJ Project set here

Tamra is an incredibly talented artist in her own right and talks candidly about what it’s like to be married to another creative person. You may not think you know her work but I guarantee you do – she directed Adam Sandler in Billy Madison, Dave Chappelle in Half Baked and got her start making music videos for everyone from Depeche Mode to Sonic Youth.

Her most recent project is a stunning documentary film on Jean-Michel Basquiat, which got rave reviews from our own DJs Mario Cotto and Liza Richardson. They both couldn’t stop talking about it. Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child is screening in various cities across the country and the DVD is available for pre-order.

Oh, and back to the Beasties – they have confirmed that their forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 will be due out in Spring and the tracklist is below.
