    From KCRW Intern Monika Scott

Mark Ruffalo has always been someone I’ve heard being described as an “actor’s actor.” For what it’s worth, I’m not an actor and yet have been a big fan of his for a long time. The Brothers Bloom remains one of my all time favorites. So I tried to keep my cool when I discovered he was on this week’s Guest DJ Project.

When I first listened to his Guest DJ set, I could feel myself getting emotional at his take on the message of Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars” and Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love.” It’s not just the fact that he chose two songs that have always touched me in a way I have never quite been able to explain…but he managed to explain it to me (which I appreciated).

It’s always interesting to hear someone who is an artist shed their insight into other artist’s work. It’s like giving me another set of eyes to look at something with. Or in this case, another set of ears to hear these songs with.

After hearing about what inspires him, you can watch him play Bruce Banner in the upcoming movie The Avengers. Or you can see his directorial debut Sympathy for Delicious (which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize) which will be in limited release on April 29th and available for video on demand on May 6th.

Mark Ruffalo’s Guest DJ Set Tracklist:

    1. Kid A – Radiohead

    2. Because Tonight – Besnard Lakes

    3. Between the Bars – Elliott Smith

    4. Walk on the Wild Side – Lou Reed

    5. Skinny Love – Bon Iver
