Some time last year, DJ Dan Wilcox was filling in for Jason Bentley as host of Morning Becomes Eclectic and he played a song that prompted me to run down the hallway and find out what it was – it was “Trip” by Vacationer and I begged him to send me the MP3. It felt like an aural escape in the form of dream pop (not surprising, given the band name). It felt like somewhere I wanted to be, where I could release all my cares in the world and just sink into the song.

“Be With You”, Jason’s current favorite,is the same way, but it takes you to a different tropical island, evoking feelings of joy, warmth, and – the best one of all – being in love.

Vacationer’s music is a sonic grab bag of sounds – the chirps of birds, whistles and other random noises. The band’s debut album, “Gone”, came out yesterday on Downtown Records and the band is heading out on tour with The Naked and Famous, with a date at the Wiltern tonight!
