All of our DJs receive hundreds of CDs a month to consider for airplay. In this regular feature, KCRW DJ Chuck Pcatalogues his musical bounty from the Post Office each week.

“Fall is the new summer! After a couple of weeks of chilly weather, we’ve had temps reaching the hundred and teens in downtown LA. It’s driving me crazy, but I think we’re past the madness.

At least the post office had some nifty goods. Check ’em out.

1) Mike Pride’s From Bacteria To Boys – “Betweenville”

I pretty much love everything Brooklyn label Aum Fidelity puts out. Steven Joerg was ahead of his time at Homestead Records, and his labels’ coverage of the NYC jazz scene is sick. This goes right to the top of the stack. I don’t get nearly enough jazz. Is that even possible?

2) Marnie Stern – either “Marnie Stern” or “On A Tightrope” (both titles are indicated on the CD)

Guitar shredding master Stern is back with a new album that may be her best to date. I’m going to listen to it again while I walk the rug rat this afternoon.

3) Highlife – “Best Bless” EP

Loved F Kenya RIP when I heard it earlier this year, and the EP expands on that sound. Hope a full length is in the works.

Honorable mentions this week include new tracks from Ghostland Observatory and a new solo record from Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker. In fact, I hear the other two thirds of Sleater-Kinney are in an all female indie rock supergroup called Wild Flag, along with The Minders Rebecca Cole and my indie rock crush, Helium’s Mary Timony.

Until next week.
