Over the past decade since English singer/songwriter Jono McCleery hit the scene, he's become the standard-bearer for delicate, melancholy tunes. His new album, Pagodes, certifies this position with a rich collection of intimate songs that warrant repeat listens. The tracks build from the most primitive of arrangements - often just a gently-plucked acoustic guitar or elegant piano melody - to a compendium of musical details that blossom by the end of the song. It's a savvy model and one McCleery has clearly mastered.
