NYC's Mariachi Flor De Toloache is noteworthy for a variety of reasons, primary of which is that they are totally awesome! But they are the first and only established all-female mariachi band in NYC. They were nominated for the Latin Grammy for Best Ranchera Album this year. And most recently, they have been out on tour with the Arcs (a couple of the members even joined the Arcs during their recent appearance on Morning Becomes Eclectic, heard here).
But first and foremost is the music, which ranges from Latin classics such as "Cucurrucucu Paloma" to their own traditionally-flavored originals. Founded in 2008 by Mireya Ramos, the violinist, vocalist, composer and arranger for the group, Mariachi Flor De Toloache are breaking boundaries for music fans of all stripes, and their self-titled debut is a festive introduction to their work.
