Best of 2007

Hosted by

This is Gemma Dempsey host of the Global Gig Guide – now I don’t know about you but I am pretty exhausted after a year of global gigging, so I’m taking a break til’ the New Year.

But before I retreat to my cave, I thought it would be fun to revisit some of the main festivals of 2007 and to ask you which you enjoyed the best and which you thought were the most memorable performances. Email your faves to Global@KCRW.com - I’ll give the address out again at the end of this Global Gig Guide, so keep a pen handy.

As usual, Glastonbury was a very muddy affair this year, but it didn’t dampen the spirits of the festival- goers or performers.
Some of the top performances for Glasto 2007 were:
The Who
Artic Monkeys
Lilly Allen
And Fat Freddys Drop

If you are based in Belgium did you have fun at Pukkelpop and who was the best in show – was it
Basement Jaxx
Arcade Fire
Kings of Leon
Or M.I.A

Roskilde is Denmark’s biggest rock and electronica event
And its just been announced that Radiohead is to headline next years festival – so sign up now for the Roskilde email newsletter so you don’t miss out on Tickets!

If you made it to this years Roskilde what did you enjoy the most – was it
Bjork
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
John Legend
Or did you go to the Roskilde Cinema to watch the Julian Temple’s documentary ‘Joe Strummer:The Future is Unwritten’?

The Global Gig Guide did its first international ticket giveaway with Italia Love Wave Music festival in Florence this year. I checked out one of the days while on my summer hols, and can personally recommend the following performances –
CSS
Tunng
A Toys Orchestra
Tinariwen
And  Kaiser Chiefs.

As you may know, KCRW is based in a basement in Santa Monica California, so I couldn’t sign off on 2007 without mentioning our excellent SoCal festival –Coachella.
Once again the heat belted down on the great and the good of the music world  which included:
Ozomatli
Happy Mondays
Brazilian Girls
The Good the Bad and The Queen
And Hot Chip

So if I’ve reminded you of some great gigs of 2007 or perhaps left out the ones you think were brilliant , email The Global Gig Guide at Global@kcrw.com.

In the meantime I wish you a happy and safe festive season and see you again in 2008!
