The Trans Musicales Festival of Rennes calls itself ‘a musical trip where people discover new or unknown sounds, where the artistic melting pot creates a magic atmosphere… a snapshot of creation, an accelerator of musical particles…for three days three nights they reveal, they demonstrate …and then go away til next year.’

The Trans takes place from December 6-9th in Rennes, the capital of Brittany in the north east of France. The majority of the gigs take place at the Parc Expo which can house up to 12,500 music fans.
The Trans began in 1979 and prides itself on discovering new musical talent from around the world as well as nurturing local artistsand this year they include …Florian Mona, My Name is Nobody, Kim Novak and Pony Pony Run Run.

Tunng will perform with Buck 65 and Serafina Steer bringing together rap, blues folk pop and electronica. If that wasn’t enough of a musical mélange,  how about the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra? Yep, this is an orchestra made up of vegetables and at the end of the concert they are made into  a big bowl of soup! The Trans also has a number of theatrical and hybrid type shows including a version of Hamlet, an interactive cube called Hako and Hip Hop Dance.

As well as being the birthplace of the tango, Argentina is home to Personal Fest - the largest and most important international music event in Argentina. Taking place on December 7th and 8th, it’s held at the Club Ciudad in Buenos Aires on and is sponsored by the mobile phone company Personal –hence its name.  Buenos Aires - or B.A as the locals call it -   is the capital city of Argentina and is sometimes referred to as the Paris of South America thanks to its European- style architecture – if you’re from Argentina or have been there I’d love to hear your impressions of this city so send me an email or photos to Global@KCRW.com.

The line up for Personal Fest 2007 is full of KCRW favourites such as Hot Chip, Datarock, Gotan Project, Fischerspooner and Happy Mondays.

The Argentine artists taking part include Vicentico  – born and bred in Buenos Aires he  co founded the band Los Fabulosos Cadillacs before establishing a solo career– and Argentine rock maestro Fito Paez .

Liverpool Music Week is the largest indoor winter music event in the UK. Established in 2003 by Liverpool promoter Mike Deane, it now has James Barton. CEO of the Cream organisation  on board to take it  to the next level.  10 days of great music kicks off on November 30th, with 200 bands performing all over Merseyside at both ticketed and free events. Liverpool Music Week aims to attract established talent as well as providing an opportunity for emerging artists and this year the line up includes…

Kaiser Chiefs,
Hard Fi,
Chemical Brothers,
Simian Mobile Disco and
Hot Club de Paris.
