Las Vegas, New York and Latin America

GLOBAL GIG GUIDE goes to Las Vegas, Brooklyn and Latin America!

Hi this is Gemma Dempsey and this week the Global Gig Guide goes to Las Vegas for the Fusion Festival, to New York for Brooklyn Next and to Latin America for some Coldplay!

It might be the year of the Boar but you will be anything but at the first Fusion festival to be held in the USA.
To Celebrate the Chinese New Year, artists from the east and west will perform over a two day event at  The Aladdin Planet Hollywood  Resort  in Las Vegas.  Representing the east will be Jackie Chan flown in from the set of Rush Hour 3 to begin the cross cultural concert, along with Taiwan’s A-mei and Supergirls from China. The western contingent includes Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley, Spank Rock and Girl Talk – the last of which is actually a bloke called Gregg Gillis!

Heading to New York, we find Brooklyn Next, a new borough wide celebration of Brooklyn’s musical talent, featuring performances at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and other venues in the area.  Local hip hop hero and actor Mos Def headlines the event with openers  The El Michaels Affair and K’Naan; other artists on the bill include neo soul singer songwriter Gordon Chambers and the up and coming chanteuse Alice Smith.

And last but not least – if you are listening to KCRW.com from Latin America and are fans of Coldplay, the band is headed your way! They have dates in Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Brazil so get to your tickets now!
