Hot Chip are back in a big, big way. The indie-dance stalwarts delivered shockwaves of euphoria through weekend one of Coachella. Fortunately for those of us who skipped the desert pilgrimage this year, we were still able to bask in the glow of Hot Chip’s return thanks to the full throttle single “Down,” and its gloriously unhinged music video directed by Pulp’s Steve Mackey and former Jesus and Mary Chain member Douglas Hart. Press play, and get pumped for the August delivery of their new album “Freakout/Release.”
There’s a lot more on this week’s chart to get pumped about. KCRW DJs far and wide are enthralled with Kate Bolliger’s jazz-folk charms, landing her exquisite new EP “Look at it in the Light” at number four. And definitely don’t sleep on Sydney-based quartet The Lazy Eyes. Their fizzy/fuzzy, psyched out/blissed out, long awaited debut full length “SongBook” is currently exceeding all of our sky-high expectations.
