KCRW’s Top 30 chart: February 13 - 19, 2023

It’s Kelela’s future, the rest of us are just living in it. The R&B boundary-pusher’s Raven holds fast at number one, with Lil Yachty’s psych-rock opus Let’s Start Here remaining hot on her heels at number two. Performing a similar feat further down the list are modern LA doo-woppers The Altons, and hella confessional Canadian singer-songwriter Andy Shauf. These artists have kept their proximity to each other on the list, while moving up a tidy two spots a piece. 

As for what’s new this week? Well, quite a bit actually. Montreal’s finest spacey indie-pop group Men I Trust are dropping a solid disco beat in their latest single, and KCRW DJs have responded with many spins. Skrillex, Anna B Savage, and Sirens of Lesbos are also making splashy debuts. 

But it’s The Go! Team eking in at number 30 that really has our hearts fluttering. The group arrived out of sleepy UK beach town Brighton, and into the mid-aughts indie scene more or less fully formed. Bandleader Ian Parton’s scrappy approach to assembling indie-electro bangers out of carefully selected soul-funk samples and bedroom beats has excited us ever since. The band’s latest, Get Up Sequences Part Two, continues their recent trend of a more collective Go! Team approach infused throughout the recording process. We’re here for it.
