KCRW’s Top 30: ‘Minions’ soundtrack rises, Killer Mike solos, and more

Gentleminions, assemble! Your current obsession, “Minions: The Rise of Gru,” has an obsession-worthy soundtrack to match. We’re fully here to do the bidding of any record that includes St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Tierra Whack, Kali Uchis, and a Tame Impala x Diana Ross collab. We’re told that the conceit of so many of our favorite artists covering ‘70s classics is done to match the film’s setting. Whatever the reason, we are eternally grateful for this.

This week’s Hammer Museum headliner and forthcoming 3 Song Story guest Pachyman is soaring up the charts as anticipation for these events mounts. Killer Mike dropped his first solo material in nearly a decade, and it’s a hit. Plus, don’t sleep on Welsh “Tresor” Gwenno as her latest native language dreampop soundscape has at last filtrated the KCRW airwaves, and by extension, the lower third of the Top 30.
