KCRW’s Top 30: Gabriels, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Santigold

For the heads out there, this week’s chart is probably looking like a series of forgone conclusions. New full-lengths from station-wide favorites Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Sampa the Great, and Santigold were bound to count for a third of the top ten. 

Infinitely upping the inevitability factor of the list was the announcement from our 2021 Breakthrough Artist Gabriels that their debut album, “Angels & Queens,” will be released in two parts, with part one due Sept. 30 via Atlas Artists/Parlophone Records. Following a late-breaking radio premiere of the extra-funky title track on FREAKS ONLY, it was off to the races. Only “When the Lights Go,” the first LP in a decade from DJ/producer Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, was able to eke out slightly more spins, helped in part by TEED’s own FREAKS ONLY appearance the same night as the Gabriels premiere.
