It’s from the esteemed composer Laura Karpman, who nabbed an Oscar nod for her score to American Fiction. A recent MBE Guest DJ and guest on The Business, Laura surprised us with a sublime piece. She shares this insight with us:
“The ‘Monk Suite’ is a vocal version of the ‘Family Theme,’ the ‘Monk Theme,’ and the ‘Love Theme’ from American Fiction. I originally conceived of the score for the film being filled with vocals, words popping up every once in a while, like Monk’s thoughts. Ultimately, the vocals did not work within the context of the film, but here they are presented as a shimmering extension of Elena Pinderhughes’ magnificent flute playing.”
