Noori and his Dorpa Band: ‘Al Amal’

Hailing from Sudan, Noori and his Dorpa Band capture the sound of Beja (pronounced Bee-Jah) music. A gifted musician who welded and tuned a ‘70s-era four-stringed instrument called the tambour to the neck of an electric guitar, Noori wields the tambo-guitar, a new instrument that he invented. “Al Amal” explores its sound and the band’s brand of Sudanese electric soul.
