The superb Manitoba-based band The Duhks perform live on Sunday at 1pm.
Admittedly not much of a country music fan, which the band has been pegged as, Tom says he was smitten by the band’s versatility after hearing two songs from their new CD, Fast Paced World. The first was a potent song about Hurricane Katrina, the second was inspired by afro-beat king Fela Kuti. The group is fronted by vocalist Sarah Dugas, a powerful, fresh and original voice who reminds me at times of Lizz Wright. They play country and southern tunes, old Canadian cajun songs, but are versatile enough to go right into hot Brazilian music or Nordeste style, in a heartbeat.
