Next week, City Council election ballots will be sent out to residents living in the Eastside, Westside, and Mesa districts. This is the first time in almost 50 years that Santa Barbara will select their city council members by district rather than a citywide election. To talk about this change, KCRW’s Jonathan Bastian sat down with two political commentators ingrained in the issue, journalists Jerry Roberts and Joshua Molina.

“I think you’re going to have micro focus on lighting on a street as opposed to a huge deficit in the general fund budget.”

– Josh Molina, reporter for Noozhawk

“There’s no political incentive to focus on citywide issues.”

– Jerry Roberts, co-publisher for Calbuzz
