Hoping for asylum in the US, Haitian migrants are making their way to Tijuana

As hundreds of Haitians wait for appointments with US officials, they camp in Tijuana. They’ve been traveling by bus and foot for over three months to get here, to ask for asylum.

Tijuana’s few social service agencies are already taxed taking care of thousands of Mexican deportees from the US. Now, they struggle to make room for the new Haitian arrivals.

The Padre Chava Breakfast Hall is one such place.
