The top five candidates for Los Angeles mayor square off tonight in a debate at UCLA’s Royce Hall. The debate will be the first live, televised forum in this year’s mayoral campaign.

Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel and Councilman Eric Garcetti are the race’s top contenders. Also joining them on stage will be Councilwoman Jan Perry, entertainment attorney and radio host Kevin James, and former technology executive Emanuel Pleitez.

As far as city politics go, there’s that big election, and then there are city council races. And this year will offer the biggest change in quite some time for the Los Angeles City Council, with some new faces sure to grace the ‘horseshoe.’

KCRW’s Steve Chiotakis spoke with Kevin Roderick from LA Observed about the campaigns affecting LA voters.
