Is California Bracing for Its 'Worst-Ever' Fire Season?

We're not prepared for an unusually long, hot season — let alone for the consequences of climate change. Should people who've chosen to build homes next to the fire-prone wilderness pay the cost of fire prevention, containment and lost life or property? Also, teachers and school reformers battle it out in a statewide election.
Later, on To the Point, in just over three weeks, the eyes of more than a billion people will be on Brazil for the World Cup, a tournament that does much more than determine the champion of all soccer. Will it enhance the host country or damage its reputation by revealing economic inequality and a misallocation of precious resources?
