Artist Thi Bui was born in Vietnam just three months before the 1975 fall of Saigon. Her family fled on a dangerous boat journey to Malaysia, and eventually made their way to America. In a new graphic memoir, she documents her family’s life in Vietnam -- surviving war, communism and French colonial rule -- and how they made new lives for themselves in the US.
