People in the Bay Area are living on or near a “tectonic time bomb.” That’s what geologists call the Hayward fault. It runs for 52 miles, passing under Oakland, Berkeley and San Jose. They say a big earthquake in the East Bay is due. A big one could lead to hundreds of deaths and displace tens of thousands of people.
