Anonymous edits to Wikipedia pages that deal with the New York Police Department have been traced to computers on NYPD servers. The edits have appeared in entries on pages like the “Death of Eric Garner,” prominent figures in New York police leadership and the NYPD’s controversial stop-and-frisk program. All of it was altered in what appears to be an attempt to whitewash questionable actions by the police. That goes against Wikipedia’s conflict of interest guidelines. How did it get uncovered, and has it shaken public confidence in the transparency of the NYPD?
