LA’s Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is recognized around the world as one of America’s most charismatic politicians. For years, the Los Angeles Times has given him respectful treatment, and this week’s announcement of his broken marriage got restrained news coverage. For columnist Steve Lopez, the public way the Mayor handled his private life was “a disaster”.
