Clinton's Big Bucks Defense Proposal
The President's year 2000 defense budget includes twelve billion dollars in new funds and 110 billion dollars over the next six years. It's not enough. That's what the country's military chiefs are saying. After years of declining military budgets, the Pentagon says huge increases are needed to simply maintain what they've got. But critics say Bill Clinton is simply strengthening his centrist power base by bowing to defense budget hawks. The President's military increases - are they needed? Are they not nearly enough?
