California Chief Justice Ronald George to Retire

California Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald George has announced that he’ll step down in November after 14 years as the state’s top jurist. George’s legacy includes decisions on abortion, affirmative action and the ruling that briefly legalized same-sex marriage in the State of California, until voters overturned it by passing Proposition 8.
