New Grocery Workers Contract Regains Benefits

Hosted by

It appears that one of LA’s major economic engines will not be shut down by a labor dispute as shipping companies and the Longshore and Warehouse Union reached a tentative agreement today.  If it’s ratified, that’s good news for the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.

Over the weekend, Southern California grocery workers approved an agreement that brought peace to Vons, Ralphs and Albertsons.  Union members got their first raises in five years and the new contract repeals the two-tier pay scales enacted after a 141-day strike and lockout four years ago.
