Which Way, L.A.?

Ports of LA and Long Beach

The Ports of LA and Long Beach are backed up -- so is international commerce. What does it mean for LA's economy -- before and after this Christmas season? The backup is due to a chain of events, including a pilots' strike and a shortage of dockworkers to handle an increase in shipping. But the most important element is a lack of railroad capacity to haul cargo away from the docks. Will the much-awaited Alameda Corridor help avoid a repeat in the future?
