Sacramento Politics, Schwarzenegger Just Says 'No'

Hosted by Warren Olney Sep. 08, 2005
Tonight, as the legislative session winds down, the Assembly and Senate are debating some 400 bills. Out of those that have already passed, the Governor has vetoed 15 of 16 authored by Democrats. With drivers' licenses for undocumented workers, expansion of solar power and tax breaks for Hollywood still on the agenda, what Republicans, Democrats and a host of special-interest groups have their eyes on is the special election the Governor called for November. Neither side wants the other to get an advantage. Recent political polls show that Schwarzenegger's popularity has sunk like a stone, along with the measures he wants voters to pass. We get a progress report on the politics of gridlock in Sacramento from one Sacramento-based journalist and two political handicappers. Reporter's Notebook: Young New Orleans Evacuees Arrive in Echo Park The Angeles Temple in LA's Echo Park has some new visitors and they may be staying for a long time. One hundred seventy former residents of New Orleans have arrived, most by airplane and some by car. Eighteen-year old Tyler Seaberry, along with his 25-year old brother, hit the highway and hitchhiked across the country. Here's Tyler's story as told to Youth Radio.
