Sheriff's Department Firings: Reform or Public Relations?

Hosted by

Criminal gangs are a familiar challenge for the LA County Sheriff's Department. Less well known are the organized gangs of deputies within the Department itself, complete with tattoos and hand signs.  Now, Sheriff Lee Baca has told the so-called Jump Out Boys they're going to be fired.  Is this a real house-cleaning or only symbolic after the blue-ribbon excoriation of Baca for brutality in the county jails, and when he might face a tough fight for re-election next year? On our rebroadcast of today's To the Point, targeted killings of American citizens by their government without trial or judicial review, and the dirty secret of sexual assault against women in the US armed forces.
