Sure, you've heard of Coachella and the Monterey Jazz Fest, but the reality is that California is packed border-to-border with festivals of every stripe. So much so that Zócalo columnist Joe Mathews says the festival craze may be reaching its tipping point.
Whether your tastes run from Shakespeare and classic cars to garlic cloves and mules – yes, mules – there's a festival for you in California. There are literally hundreds of them. Zócalo Public Square columnist Joe Mathews says many California festivals have enduring cultural and economic value, but others…not so much. And he worries that California's festival glut could lead to a shakeout if our attention wanders or the economy takes even a slight turn for the worse. After all, how much fun can one state have?
