Halloween is coming this weekend, and all kinds of displays have started popping up in neighborhoods around Southern California -- with skeletons, headless bodies and gravestones galore. It's a time when we seem to delight in scaring ourselves and each other—and confronting some of the frightening things that we tend to stuff into our mental closets or under the bed the rest of the year. In this edition of Zócalo's Connecting California, columnist Joe Mathews says one of the things that really scares is him — is the light. We asked him to explain.
