At Least 48 Killed as Storms Slam Southern Region The American South has been hit by another natural disaster. Tornados wreaked havoc overnight in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee. The death toll has risen to 48 and is likely to go higher. Today, President Bush promised assistance.
