Andreya Triana: Giants
Among the top of the recent class of future soul artists, Andreya Triana returns with a second album of tunes that stir the emotions in both classically familiar and forward-thinking ways.
Among the top of the recent class of future soul artists, Andreya Triana returns with a second album of tunes that stir the emotions in both classically familiar and forward-thinking ways. With a history of already working with such master music makers like Flying Lotus, Bonobo, Mr. Scruff and Fink, Triana takes the reins on her new album, with nods to 60s-era belters like Aretha Franklin to 90s R&B divas like Beyoncé and even a dash of contemporaries like Adele. Keeping things mostly instrument-based, she carefully chooses appropriate moments to unleash the production tricks that propel songs like "Clutterbug." But other songs, like the album's closer, "Everything You Never Had," persist through her forceful performances, making for a rich listening experience worthy of multiple listens.
