Fat Freddy's Drop: Bays

Using a mix of reggae, funk, jazz and electronic styles, Fat Freddy's Drop have become one of New Zealand's biggest musical exports. Thus, the release of a new album from the band is certainly cause for celebration. Bays easily fits their usual modus operandi, with a couple of twists.

Of any band which has arisen in the new millennium, Fat Freddy's Drop has been one of KCRW's favorites. Over the course of three studio albums and a fistful of live releases, this New Zealand-based collective has captured the musical multi-cultural vibe that strikes our fancy and engages our listeners.

While in the past their songs have come out of road-testing new tunes while on their extensive touring, Bays was conceived and created in their Wellington-based studio, giving a slightly more crafted feel to the record. The horns are tight, the vocals are smooth, and the feel is just as relevant for your soul as your feet. Explore the world with Fat Freddy's Drop's latest record and rediscover an old favorite.
