Glasser: Interiors

This fall, Cameron Mesirow, aka Glasser, offers up
Interiors, a new album that suggests she's somewhat of a changed woman. But fans of her 2010 debut,
Ring, never fear! She is still a purveyor of elegant, but danceable electronic music, with echoes of Bjork or Zola Jesus in her carefully calibrated vocals. But who wouldn't be different after three years, especially if that included moving from the West Coast to NYC and embarking in a new relationship (in this case, with her producer, Van Rivers).
Undoubtedly her sophomore record reflects these changes in her personal life; the album seems to capture the dynamic architecture of her new, decidedly vertical hometown, hinted at in song titles like "Shape," "Design" and a trio of musical vignettes called "Window." And Interiors' sound is noticeably slicker than its predecessor, with pulsing rhythms and coruscating percussion tricks that fit both aesthetically and geographically the metropolitan scene (and Rivers' own special production skills as well). Some songs even remind me of Peter Gabriel's more abstract side, which might not have been a direction guessed at on the basis of her debut. But Glasser has exceeded expectations on
Interiors, progressing and challenging herself as all true artists should, and with confidence to boot (and if you're not careful, she'll mistake you for a block!)
