For this month, I wanted to share a mix of music from across the Middle East. I should say upfront that this mix does not come from deep scholarly knowledge of the region’s music. Rather, the selections come from my personal collection and the limited understanding I have gathered over the years. For listeners with deeper expertise, some pairings may feel unexpected, imperfect, or mismatched. However, my intention was not to present a definitive or authoritative survey, but to place artists from neighboring countries, communities, and cultures into a shared listening space. From afar, I hear these voices as part of a larger constellation. While the realities on the ground may be far more complex, my hope in assembling this mix was to imagine a moment of unity: a constellation of sounds, like stars and galaxies that may be distant from one another, yet appear connected when viewed from the same sky.
