1. Community Storytelling at Vidiots– Tale Spin: ‘My Cell Phone: Surrender or Die’
Join Vidiots for their monthly storytelling event centered around the theme “My Cell Phone: Surrender or Die.”
“How it works:
Arrive, relax, snack, drink, and meet interesting people at 7:00pm. If you want to tell a story based on the chosen theme, (My Cell Phone: Surrender or Die) put your name in the hat. Our first story begins at 7:30pm sharp
Our emcee draws a name. The storyteller speaks for a 5-minute story or less. No need to memorize, notes fine. Just please prepare: a beginning, middle, and end. Please bring a bottle of wine or preferred beverage and/or appetizer to share. Seating is limited.”
When: Thursday January 23, 2014 7:00 PM

2. Just Add Water
Amid news of a drought emergency in California as well as the centennial of the L.A. Aqueduct, the Natural History Museum’s show Just Add Water: Artworks Inspired by the L.A. Aqueduct by Rob Reynolds is more timely than ever. The exhibit features “10 original, large-scale watercolors that interpret the epic significance of the Aqueduct, through the lenses of history, geography, and time.”
When: Exhibition open until August 3, 2014

3. Jae Won Cho “Elements”
One of DnA’s first design picks was Jae Won Cho‘s T-shelf (pictured above.) and his new show will feature a collection of his recent work.
Using locally-sourced and recycled materials, Jae Won Cho creates structures by pushing the potential of a single form (most often, the triangle) and applying a system throughout to create beautifully complex compositions. From sculptural pieces to useful objects like tables, chairs, stools, and shelves, Jae Won works outside of the categories of traditional furniture making and instead is interested in the natural formations that occur as result of shifting environments.
When: Opening January 16, 2014 and runs until February 15, 2014.
Where: Design Matters Gallery; 11527 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles
