An Homage to William Burroughs in Desert Hot Springs

Three years ago Steve Lowe lovingly restored and reopened John Lautner's 1947 Desert Hot Springs Motel. Now, the onetime collaborator of William Burroughs has transformed a 50's motel into an homage to the Godfather of the Beats. The Beat Hotel in Desert Hot Springs takes its name from the original in Paris, but draws its look and feel from the Beats' favorite hotel in Tangiers, the El Muniria. Frances Anderton speaks with Lowe about his homage to Burroughs. Also, a conversation with Jade Chang of Metropolis Magazine about Caboom, a new tradeshow for LA architects, furniture designers, retailers, manufacturers and design enthusiasts.
