Using locally-sourced and recycled materials, Jae Won Cho creates structures by pushing the potential of a single form (most often, the triangle) and applying a system throughout to create beautifully complex compositions. From sculptural pieces to useful objects like tables, chairs, stools, and shelves, Jae Won works outside of the categories of traditional furniture making and instead is interested in the natural formations that occur as result of shifting environments.

DnA’s latest design pick, T.Shelf, composed of a series of birch plywood triangles adhered with plastic zip ties, can be manipulated by width, length, and depth to vary composition and grow indefinitely from the wall to the floor. The flexibility that Cho designs into the system allows for the object to be built into multiple shapes with various functions, from sculptural object to utilitarian piece of furniture, expressing both the unique characteristic of its owner and its environment. Exclusive to DnA this special edition T.Shelf includes a KCRW label made of hammered metal.

Cho’s shelf is available for purchase at the KCRW store. On a recent DnA, Jae Won Cho discussed his designs with Danielle Rago. Listen here.
