SOLA, founded by architect Barbara Bestor, PR Sara Stein and product developer Karen Alweil, says LA Mod: its punning name (Sisters of Los Angeles or So LA), its line of cheery, pop, affordable variants on often cheesy tourist gift items, that also happen to be mostly made in LA; and the involvement of Barbara Bestor, architect of houses and commercial spaces that are contemporary variants on LA’s Modern tradition, as well as author of “Bohemian Modern: Living in Silver Lake.” Everything about SOLA also feels completely simpatico with KCRW, so it was a natural to ask if they’d like to customize a product for DnA Design Picks at the KCRW store. We were delighted when they said yes, and with astonishing speed, created a tote and friendship bracelet combo especially for the KCRW community.
