    Industrial Design for Functional Objects

    When Birkenstock decided it needed to revamp its earthy footwear, the German company turned to Yves Behar, designer of products and branding for such clients as Mini, Nike and Herman Miller. Behar, a San Francisco-based product designer, who has designed shoes, perfume and shampoo bottles, furniture, and products for the new Mini, talks with Frances Anderton about his Architect collection of shoes for Birkenstock.

    A former design manager at frog design, Yves Behar is a founding principal partner of Fuseproject, a brand-development and industrial design firm based in San Francisco. His work is currently on show at the California Design Biennial at the Pasadena Museum of California Art and at the Cooper Hewitt Museum. His clients include Birkenstock, Hermann Miller, Nike and Mini.
