The leisurely opening sequence of Fire at Sea follows a schoolboy, Samuele, on Lampedusa, where boatloads of migrants -- may of them dying and some of them dead -- keep reaching the island after attempts to cross the 70 miles of the Sicilian Strait that separates the island from North Africa.
