    Why unvaccinated young Angelenos are putting even vaccinated people at risk

    Roughly 53% of LA County residents are fully vaccinated, but cases and hospitalizations are rising. As the Delta variant spreads, people ages 18-29 are being hit hardest.

    Roughly 53% of LA County residents are fully vaccinated, but cases and hospitalizations are rising. As the Delta variant spreads, people ages 18-29 are being hit hardest. Virologist and immunologist Paula Cannon attributes this spike to unvaccinated individuals, and pediatrician Dr. Leila Bozorgnia says it’s much more of a wildcard to get a COVID-19 infection than a COVID-19 vaccination.

      “Even vaccinated people are more at risk because we are being exposed to COVID-infected people in our daily lives, and the vaccines are not 100% protective,” says USC virologist Paula Cannon. “If you are still not vaccinated, then you are part of the problem and this current wave is on you.”

      Brothers Phillip and Ryan Chew have traveled worldwide competing in tournaments, joined by their grandfather Don Chew. Don grew up playing badminton in Thailand before emigrating to America, and introduced his grandsons to badminton when they were very young. He has helped coach them ever since.

      In a closed-door meeting, the Orange County Board of Supervisors agreed to sell a parcel of public land to a wealthy Newport Beach political donor named Buck Johns for $13,000. The decision happened in May.
