VFX Business in Trouble

Troubles in the VFX business.

This week Rhythm & Hues -- the visual effects house responsible for the spectacular awards-winning effects on Life of Pi -- filed for bankrupcy. The irony is significant given that they're front runners for Oscar and recently won the BAFTA and the Visual Effects Society Award. The issue is big and sprawling and covers much of the VFX business across California. It touches on the issue of outsourcing and the fact that many studios get government subsidies for doing work in Canada, India and elsewhere.
