At Cannes, talk of Woody Allen's new movie is overshadowed by drama around a reignited scandal.

Recently, the Hollywood Reporter put director Woody Allen on the cover of its Cannes issue. Following that interview, which some perceived as the interviewer going soft on the allegations of child sex abuse that have followed Allen for years, Allen's son Ronan Farrow sent out a series of tweets chastising the media. This led to Farrow being invited to write a piece for the Hollywood Reporter detailing his frustrations. The piece ran the day Allen's film was opening the Cannes Film Festival. That same day, a comedian made a rape joke directed at Allen during opening remarks, leading to gasps in the audience. After that, the Hollywood Reporter staff were dis-invited from a luncheon with Allen, and his publicist was furious that coverage of the filmmaker was now revolving around abuse allegations instead of his new film Cafe Society.
