    Prioritizing happiness in state laws is focus of new committee

    A committee wants to invest in the happiness of Californias with data-proven ideas. But a multi-billion dollar state budget deficit looms over their efforts.

    Anthony Rendon wants state lawmakers to take happiness more seriously. He is chair of the Select Committee on Happiness and Public Policy Outcomes and a speaker emeritus of the California State Assembly.

    The committee met for the first time this week to try to create policies that invest in data-proven ideas to boost Californians’ happiness. But that’s not the state’s first priority as it faces a projected $73 billion budget deficit.
