It's been less than a week since California Senator Barbara Boxer announced she won't run for re-election, creating an opening for a new senator from California for the first time in more than 20 years. Let the crystal-ball reading begin! Some of the first whispers of potential candidates involved LA Mayor Eric Garcetti and Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, who have both said they won't run. That puts the focus on other potential candidates for the seat, including Attorney General Kamala Harris, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer and several Congress members. On the Republican side, Assemblyman Rocky Chavez and two former state GOP chairmen are considering running. Kevin Roderick, editor of LA Observed, joins KCRW's Steve Chiotakis to break down the field so far.
