Obama-Geithner Revolt; Sarah Palin; Healthcare Update

There’s a strong feeling that Congress is bucking Obama and isn’t being called to task for it. For the first time, Obama’s approval ratings are below 50% (Gallup poll says) and calls for Treasury Secretary Geithner’s resignation are growing louder. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin’s managed to suck up a good deal of media oxygen. Also, the healthcare debate – or vote about whether or not to bring it to debate – is where we stand this week. Finally, Bob's 'rant' in praise of KCRW's departing General Manager Ruth Seymour.

There’s a strong feeling that Congress is bucking Obama and isn’t being called to task for it. For the first time, Obama’s approval ratings are below 50% (Gallup poll says) and calls for Treasury Secretary Geithner’s resignation are growing louder. Sarah Palin’s managed to suck up a good deal of media oxygen — Bob calls her a “tarbaby for the Republican party, a monster they created,” while Tony says he’s pro-Palin, thinks people clamor for her because she speaks her mind and breaks through, because of distrust of government and media. Says her honesty is her virtue. Bob and Arianna fear she’s dangerous, stirring up scapegoats at a time when people need someone to blame. And the healthcare debate – or vote about whether or not to bring it to debate – is where we stand this week. Should Obama punish the Dems who aren’t toeing his line? Or is this just Congress acting institutionally and asserting its rights, party politics be damned? Finally, Bob's 'rant' in praise of KCRW's departing General Manager Ruth Seymour.
