How now, defamatory cow?

Ken, what’s a “lolsuit”?

By Josh Barro • Mar 20, 2019 • 28m Listen

Well, this was a weird week. First, Josh and Ken discuss a phone call Ken got from Michael Avenatti last week.

Then, it’s Congressman Devin Nunes suing some people for what they’ve said about him on Twitter. Nunes says he wants $250 million in damages. One person who Nunes says he’s suing is Republican communications consultant Liz Mair for defamation. Liz joins Josh and Ken to talk about being named in the suit.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department released the search warrants it pursued against Michael Cohen, and they show the department was looking into Cohen earlier than we all realized — they got a warrant to search his Gmail account all the way back in July 2017. That’s nine months before the raid on his office, and eight months before Avenatti filed Stormy Daniels’ suit against Cohen before long-suffering Federal Judge James Otero. What’s the significance of what we learned from these warrants?

Then, Josh and Ken talk with a really smart lawyer. Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, joins the show to talk about the stories and insights in his new book Doing Justice: A Prosecutor’s Thoughts on Crime, Punishment, and the Rule of Law. To listen to the full interview with Preet, find it on the All The President’s Lawyers episode list wherever you get podcasts or go to kcrw.com/atpl.
